My Top Memories

I figured that it’s about time to reveal to the world that not all my memories are sad / pathetic / traumatic ones. So here goes with my top 5 memories.

1. Playing cue games with my Dad. When I was a kid the best quality time I spent with my father was playing snooker in the club he went to. I can still taste the warm, sticky lemonade in my mouth when I think about the afternoons we spent there. We then invested in a pool table and set of pool cues but playing at home was never quite as good.

2. Exploring the world. Once I have discovered that putting on a suit every day and sitting in front of a computer wasn’t the only way to live I decided to travel a bit. The highlight for me was the time spent in Peru. Machu Picchu, Arequipa and Lima are cool but seeing the extraordinary Nazca lines from up in the air wins for me. My attempts at aerial photography from up in the tiny plane were pretty poor but I was proud not to smear the ancient geometric shapes with my breakfast. And before you ask, I now sit in front of a computer all day again but as least I do it wearing my pyjamas.

3. Getting a dog. There was this scrawny little dog who lived rough in an empty piece of land just down the street and one night we decided to bundle him in the car and take him home with us. He turned out to be the cutest and most well behaved little dog in the world. The only problem is that he ignores his own bed and uses sofas, chairs and tables as dog beds.

4. Wearing sandals again. I was reminded of this when I saw the post for Born sandals. I must confess that I don’t know the brand but the sight of them reminded me of the incredible sensation of wearing open sandals after the UK weather had confined me to shoes and boots for over a year.

5. Christmas with the family. Only someone who has lived far away for a few years can truly appreciate the glow of pleasure that comes from arriving at the family home on a dark, cold evening and seeing the bright Christmas decorations lighting up the windows.
