  1. About: About.com is an online source for original information and advice. It is divided into topic sites, which are grouped into channels and cover diverse subjects such as home repair, pediatrics, model railroading, and weather. Content on the site can vary between articles, online courses, interactive quizzes, videos and so forth. (about.com)
  2. AltaVista: AltaVista is a web search engine owned by Yahoo!. It indexes the full text of Web pages, so you can find the vaguest information easily by typing specific terms such as the names of movies, books, songs, companies, etc.  AltaVista was once one of the most popular search engines but its popularity decreased with the rise of Google. (altavista.com)
  3. Ask.com: Known as Ask Jeeves in the UK. The original idea behind Ask Jeeves was to allow users to get answers to questions posed in everyday, natural language, as well as traditional keyword searching. The current Ask.com still supports this, with added support for math, dictionary, and conversion questions. (ask.com)

Bing: Bing used to be MSN search until it was updated in the summer of 2009. Advertized as a ‘decision engine’, Bing tries to support your researching by offering suggestions in the leftmost column, while also giving you various search options across the top of the screen. Bing is available in many languages and has been localized for many countries. As of October 2010, Bing is the fourth largest search engine on the web by query volume. (bing.com)
  5. Dogpile: Dogpile is a metasearch site that searches from multiple engines, filters for duplicates and then presents the results to the user. Dogpile uses multiple popular search engines, as well as sponsored links. (www.dogpile.com)
  6. Google: Google Search or Google Web Search is a web search engine owned by Google Inc. and is the one of the most-used search engine on the Web. The main purpose of Google Search is to hunt for text in web pages, such as with Google Image Search. Google Search provides at least 22 special features beyond the original word-search capability. These include synonyms, weather forecasts, time zones, stock quotes, maps, earthquake data, movie showtimes, airports, home listings, and sports scores. While it doesn’t offer all the shopping center features of Yahoo!, Google is fast, relevant, and the largest single catalogue of Web pages available today. (google.com)
  7. Lycos: Lycos is a search engine and web portal established in 1994. It also includes a network of email, webhosting, social networking, and entertainment websites. (lycos.com)
  8. MetaCrawler: MetaCrawler is a metasearch engine that provides results coming from Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Ask.com, About.com, and other popular search engines. MetaCrawler also provides users the option to search for images, video, news, yellow pages and white pages. (metacrawler.com)
  9. TheFind.com: TheFind.com is a discovery shopping search engine that targets lifestyle products such as apparel, accessories, home and garden, fitness, kids and family, and health and beauty. (thefind.com)
  10. Yahoo!: Yahoo! is not just a search engine, it is also a news aggregator, a shopping center, an email box, a travel directory, a horoscope and games center, and so much more. Yahoo! is known across the world with its multi-lingual interface. The site is available in over 20 languages, including English. (yahoo.com)
